Bulky Collection FAQ’s
Why am I being given a collection day in
advance?
Collection are being organised into areas, this will keep costs
down and provide more collections per day. The vehicles have fewer
carbon emissions and the customer will know when their collection
will be at the time of arranging.
What if the date given is unsuitable?
Another date will be offered but the day will not change, this is
to keep costs down. As long as the goods to be collected are easily
accessible, placed in the front garden/driveway of the property
visible from the kerbside.
What can we collect?
Broadly the same rule as before still applies, if moving house and
it is normally taken with you, we will collect it. It must be less
than 6 feet (1.8m) and capable of being lifted safely by 2
people.Why not ‘Black Bags’
Black sacks are not considered bulky and should be placed out on
refuse day.
Why not Green waste?
In reality green waste that is sent to landfill is unable to
decompose properly because, squashed under all the other waste, it
doesn’t have any access to air. So instead methane, a powerful
greenhouse gas, is produced which contributes to global warming.
When you send your green waste to be composted you are not only
helping to produce a good quality soil improver you are doing your
bit to reduce global warming too!
Why Bulky Items?
We aim to provide a service for larger items that people cannot
transport to the CA site themselves. Small but numerous items
should be placed out on refuse day. The bulk of our collections are
electrical items, and these come under the WEEE directive
What is the WEEE directive?
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE
Directive) aims to minimise the impact of electrical and electronic
goods on the environment, by increasing re-use and recycling and
reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill. It seeks to achieve
this by making producers responsible for financing the collection,
treatment, and recovery of waste electrical equipment, and by
obliging distributors to allow consumers to return their waste
equipment free of charge. Further information can be found on the
Direct Gov website.
