History in Kent

Currently this section focuses on the past of the Kent coast, which is exciting and diverse. We are grateful to our site authors for helping us to make such an interesting resource which covers local businesses, maritime defences and wartime activity in much detail.

We wish to extend our history section to incorporate other regions along this fascinating stretch of the country’s coast and would be glad to hear from historians, archivists, authors or researchers who can help. Please get in touch if you can help or can add with information, written reports, photographs or other historical artifacts.

The Kent coast

The Kent coast is acknowledged as being of international significance because it shows an almost full North European sedimentary history of over 200 million years of the planet’s history during the Jurassic Period.
The richness of the fossil record alone has brought the area international acknowledgement. High-quality educational materials are being created for teachers and students and there is an increase in demand for an on-site resource centre which can be made available by the internet and give digital images for a breadth of educational purposes.
