Street Collection Licence

Collecting money in the street, shop doorways or public places for charity or fundraising purposes requires a Street Collection Licence.

The licence is free of charge and is a legal requirement to ensure collectors are properly authorised and that money is collected in a secure way and the total proceeds collected are properly accounted for.

Certain national charities are exempted from the need to register for a Street Collection Licence however they are required to notify the local authority in advance of the dates of collections.   Where such notification are received, any alterations to the dates notified by the national charity must be made by that organisation.  It is not possible to authorise individual collections without the authorisation of specific charity.
