FEEL ALIVE and GET WETFeel Alive and Get Wet 2010

Feel Alive & Get Wet’ splashed down in Dover in style with 4,000 people enjoying the fantastic range of free activities in Pencester Gardens on Saturday, and 270 places filled on the water by people taking advantage of the free tasters sessions in sailing, windsurfing and kayaking at Dover Sea Sports Centre on Sunday.

The event organised by Dover District Council, Vista Leisure, Dover Water Sports, ACTiV Sports Shop and jointly funded with Dover Town Council and Kent County Council's Sport. Leisure & Olympics Service was the second of the three ‘Feel Alive’ events this summer aimed at getting people of all ages and abilities into sport, fitness and healthy living.

The park was full of activity on the Saturday, with KMFM running the Dance & Fitness Zone which included performances and ‘have-a-go’ sessions by CJ’s Dance & Fitness, Vista Twisters, Jan Anton Dancers and by instructors from Zumba Fitness, TaiChi and Pilates. There was also a rocking climbing tower and bouldering wall, and in the Skate Park ‘Revolution’ ran the show with free lessons in skate-boarding, in-line skating, and on BMXs and scooters, followed by a 2 hour competition.

In addition there were many other clubs and organisations in the park offering taster sessions including; horses from the Alkham Valley Community Project, Dover Pirates Basketball Club, Dover Rugby Club, Dover Rowing Club, Etchinghill Golf Club, White Cliffs Ramblers, Shims Way Jujitsu, Dover Kyokushinkia Karate Club, and more.

The event was also supported by the PCT Health Trainers and Age Concern’s Health Promotion, and offered a Play Zone for the under 5 year olds and a Games Zone for everyone offering; tennis, badminton, netball, cricket and much more.

The event follows the success of ‘Feel Alive’ at Victoria Park in June, and comes ahead of the final event at Fowlmead Country Park on 15 August. DDC’s Sports Development Officer Sarah Philpott said: “I am pleased with the success of the event in Dover, and for anyone that wants to do more activities and sports this summer simply log onto the Active Dover webpages to find out more".
