FEEL ALIVE and GET ACTIVE
...was back at Deal’s at Victoria
Park & Tides Leisure
Centre on Sunday (6 June), and despite the rain
hundreds of people enjoyed taking part in a fantastic range of free
activities suitable for all ages and abilities.
The event organised by Dover
District Council, Vista Leisure and
jointly funded with
Deal Town Council and KCC included; archery, badminton,
tennis and football (provide by PACE Development Ltd) including
from 5-a-side matches to ’Beat the Keeper’ and the chance to test
your ball kicking skills in the Speed Cage.
Revolution
ran the show in Deal state of the art Skate Bowl offering lessons
in skate boarding, in-line skating, scooter and BMX, and in the
afternoon the crowds cheered and marvelled at the talented riders
and skaters who entered into the competition.
Many of the district’s sport clubs provided activities
including; Deal &
Betteshanger Rugby, East Kent Arco (trampolining
& gymnastics), Dover Pirates Basketball
Club, Shims Way
Jujitsu Club and Downs Sailing
Club. And there was lots more happening on site such as the
under 5yr ‘PlayZone’ with a bouncy castle, the 5-11yrs ‘GamesZone’,
Kent Youth &
Age Concern display,
and activities in the sports-hall including; Tai Chi, Karate,
New Age Kurling, Boccia and Table Tennis.
There were displays by; Wheel 2 Wheel a trial
bike team who wowed the crowd with their skilful high rise jumps
and manoeuvres, and several performances by Deal Dance Centre who
provide lessons in tap, street, modern and contemporary
dance.
Dover District Council’s Sports Development
Officer and event organiser Sarah Philpott said “the Feel Alive
events are about raising awareness of the many sports and
activities that can be done locally, and encouraging people aged
1yr olds to 80yr olds to participate on a regular basis and lead a
healthy, happy and positive lifestyle”.

All events run from 10am to 4pm, and there
will the chance to try many different sports and activities at each
event.
