Active Dover ...a district on the move

What is Active Dover?
Active Dover is a group of partners working together with the
interest to develop and promote sport and active recreation across
the Dover District.
They have three core aims;
- To increase the number of people taking part in sport and
active recreation by 1% year on year (measured by Ipsos MORI),
- To widen access to opportunities for sport and active
recreation, and
- To bring together and align partners’ existing priorities and
targets within one joined up local action plan.
Who are the partners of Active Dover?
The partners are from the public, private and
voluntary sectors, whose primary interest is in: health,
education, community cohesion, or economic regeneration as well as
sport and active recreation.

What are the key actions?
- To compile a new database of sports/physical activity
clubs/facilities, promote Clubmark Accreditation and support
volunteers of all ages to undertake NGB recognised coaching
certificates
- To support and implement outreach programmes in village and
church halls in conjunction with Town & Parish Councils,
- To support participation at Dover Sea Sports Centre for the
whole community and make recommendations on facilities and staff
training to enable greater use for people with disabilities,
- To deliver sport, competition and leadership opportunities in
line with the Dover District School Sport Partnership and in
conjunction with the partnership calendar,
- To work with schools to encourage the extended use and seek
long term access agreements to maximise availability of facilities
to the community,
- To identify where the stock of facilities may be improved under
the Building Schools for the Future Programme,
- To engage in a joint marketing campaign that will increase the
awareness of sport and active recreation opportunities,
- To seek opportunities to link into the gestation and legacy of
the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games,
- To review the organisation of current community sporting events
in the Dover District and consider new to and maximise club and
community participation,
- To carry out a review of the dissemination of grant aid, and
consider developing Sports Award Evenings to raise profile in the
community,
- To consider the use of sport and active recreation as a tool
for crime reduction initiatives and increased social cohesion,
- To incorporate National Indicator 8: Increase adult
participation in sport and active recreation, into all work
programmes, and in line with KCC development
