FEEL ALIVE and GET DIRTY
Feel Alive returned to Fowlmead Country Park on Sunday 15
August - and around 1,500 people came along to join in the fun with
a fantastic range of 30 activities and information stands all aimed
at outdoor and adventure sports and pursuits.
Fowlmead is well known for its
cycling and walking, and there were guided bike rides being taken
out every half hour by VC Deal and ACTiV on both the tarmac track
and off-road woodland paths respectively. There was a chance to try
a variety of bikes from tandems to hand-cycles, and a chance to
have-a-go at trials riding with displays from the sensational
‘Wheel 2 Wheel’. The
White Cliffs Ramblers,
East Kent Health Walks and Nordic Walking were all
present to offer a variety of walking experiences, and there were
‘have-a-go’ taster sessions in archery,
geocaching, fossil
collecting, power kiting,
kite land boarding and orienteering.
Exciting new additions this year
were; Zorbing, Mountain Boarding, Deal &
Sandwich Shooting Club who offered clay pigeon shooting and
Playwell
Golf Academy who coached people on their swing at the golf
range. The list of organisations goes on with the
KCC Community Wardens security marking bikes, and presence by;
Spokes,
Kent Youth Service, Kent Ballooning, Sweet,
Gridlock, and last but not least ACTiV, who have
very kindly offered a Trek Mountain Bike as the star prize in the
‘Feel Alive 2010 Prize Draw’.
DDC’s Sports Development Officer
Sarah Philpott said: “Feel Alive has been a great success again
this year, and it really is a pleasure to see the smiles on
people’s faces as they take on a new challenge and succeed.
Feel Alive is all about raising awareness of where sport and
recreational activities take place locally, and encouraging people
of all ages and abilities to get involved and stay healthy in the
long term.”
