Local Development Framework
Workshops and Public Opinion Research
Key to the success of the new system is the early identification
of all the issues facing the District from anyone who has an
interest in planning the District's future. We have used Public
Opinion Research and a series of participation workshops to help us
with this process.
Public Opinion Research to obtain views has been undertaken from
residents on a broad range of issues. A postal questionnaire was
distributed to 5,000 households in the District.
Public Opinion Research on the LDF Public Consultation
Opinion Research Services (ORS) was
commissioned by Dover District Council to seek the views of
residents of the District on plans relating to the Local
Development Framework. ORS undertook an independent survey of
612 residents, and from six focus groups. The face-to-face survey
was conducted by ORS interviewers with people in their homes
between 7th and 23rd April 2008 and the focus groups took place
during May and June of the same year. The research undertaken by
ORS formed part of a major public consultation undertaken and
sponsored by Dover DC, which included a series of public meetings,
and invitations to comment. The research was intended as a means of
measuring residents’ attitudes and opinions regarding the proposals
contained in the LDF Documents.
The Council also arranged a number of workshops with local
community groups, organisations and stakeholders in order to ensure
that they are involved in the early stage of the preparation of the
LDF.
An Issues and Options Workshop took place on the 3 March 2005 at
The Ark in Dover and was used to identify a number of priorities
for the District and sub-District.
The Public Opinion Research, background studies and the
priorities for the District and sub-District areas that were
identified by participants at the Issues and Options Workshop all
helped to inform the Committee Report on Dover Local Development Framework: Core Strategy,
Dover Area Action Plan and Site Allocations Development Plan
Documents 8/02.
As part the development of the LDF, a Stakeholder Workshop was
held on 6th June 2005. This was used to explore and test an
emerging Portrait of the District and objectives for the District
and its individual settlements.
Town and Parish Councils and local community groups are being
fully involved the preparation of the LDF through a series of
Workshops that were held in July 2005.
