Getting Involved in Your Community

Dover District Council is committed to listening to our residents and finding ways to informconsult and involve you in the planning and delivery of council services, and in the issues that affect the quality-of-life in your community.

We want to encourage and support residents to become more active in their community, so you can have your say, take part in decisions that affect you and make a difference.

We recognise, and value the fact that, many people are already active in the Dover district, giving up hours of their time to make life better for themselves, their neighbours and their communities.

Below you can find out about how you can become more involved and active in community and the issues that affect you and where you live.

Active in your community

Being active in your community is about being involved, having your say on local issues and taking part in decisions that affect you. It's about people making things happen – becoming actively involved in tackling the things that need to change around you. As a result you will be able to improve the quality of life in your local community.

How do I get more involved?

There are so many ways to become more involved in the district, both big and small. For example:

Do You ...

  • Vote in local elections or take part in surveys?
  • Attend community meetings, such as the Dover District Neighbourhood Forums?
  • Help a neighbour with their shopping?
  • Recycle?

Are You...

  • Involved in community events?
  • A volunteer for a charity or group?
  • In a Neighbourhood Watch scheme or a member of the residents group?
  • A trustee or school governor?

If you can answer 'YES' to any of the questions above, then you are already active in your community!

Help us to help you – become active in your community

Only by knowing what you want from us can we work to provide the best possible services in the district. We need the people we serve to tell us what they think of the Council and what they think we can do to further improve our services.
