Regeneration

What is Regeneration?

Regeneration is not just about building houses and shops.  It is about the regeneration of a place as a whole, including social, economic, health, education, public realm and better access to services such as health centres and schools.

The residents of a town that has undergone regeneration should be proud of the place where they live.

How is Dover District Council going to regenerate the District?

Dover District Council is unable to achieve this without working in close partnership with public sector organisations such as Kent County Council, English Partnerships and the South East of England Development Agency (SEEDA) to name but a few.  It also needs to work very closely with major employers of the District such as Dover Harbour Board and Pfizer, to ensure that they not only continue to invest in the District but that their businesses can flourish with infrastructure improvements and a skilled workforce that meets their requirements.

In Dover District there are 3 main towns, each with their individual challenges. Dover, in particular,  has 3 wards in the 10% most deprived nationally.  There is also a large rural population presenting challenges of access to facilities, transportation and sustainability.

There are a number of ways that we are planning to do this, including numerous building projects such as Dover Town Investment Zone, Aylesham Village Expansion, Connaught Barracks and Buckland Mill.  Various Public Realm improvements, including Dover Priory Station and improvements to Station Approach, Refurbishment of the Esplandade is due to be completed in June 2010, Dover Sea Sports Centre is operational and improvements to Deal Pier have been undertaken including a new award winning cafe/restaurant.

Consultations of the various regeneration projects will be carried out with the public at set stages to ensure that your views can be incorporated.

We welcome your views on any of the Regeneration Projects. Please email regeneration@dover.gov.uk or write to the Regeneration Unit, Dover District Council, White Cliffs Business Park, Dover CT16 3PJ.
