Public Realm Improvements

The Public Realm Strategy was commissioned in 2006 to provide a clear vision for Dover Town Centre to enhance the physical regeneration projects which are planned for the town.  It identified 18 sites around Dover as priority areas and these are:

 

  1. Dover Priory Station Forecourt
  2. Folkestone Road
  3. The northern York Street Roundabout
  4. The north end of the pedestrianised area of Biggin Street/War Memorial
  5. The River Dour
  6. The pedestrianised area of Biggin Street
  7. Pencester Gardens
  8. Market Square
  9. St Marys Church
  10. Connections between the retail area and York Street
  11. York Street
  12. York Street Discovery Centre setting
  13. The corner of York Street and Townwall Street
  14. The southern York Street Roundabout
  15. The Western Docks
  16. The town centre to waterfront connection including the Townwall Street underpass
  17. Townwall Street
  18. Townwall Street/Maison Dieu intersection

Each of these identified priority areas will have common elements ensure that there are linkages throughout the town but each area a unique feel to ensure that the existing characteristics are not lost.  The first area for Public Realm Improvements are Dover Priory Station Forecourt, Station Approach and Folkestone Road.
